The new MTSAT satellite owned by Japan Meteorological Association (JMA) has begun test transmissions. This new satellite will replace the older GMS5 satellite, and provide vital geostationary satellite coverage of the entire Asian region.

The ES&S MTSAT groundstation is being used to receive the new test transmission, and process the data to produce images in infrared and visible channels. The images below are some of the first received in Australia.
