Birdstrike Avoidance Systems for the Remote Aerodrome Safety Program (RASP)

The Rudd Government’s Remote Aerodrome Safety Program (RASP) is a national program aimed at assisting the upgrade of aerodromes in remote and isolated communities to facilitate the delivery of essential goods and non-commercial air services including health care.

Birdstrikes (Click for link of chronological listing of recent birdstrikes) pose a significant safety hazard to aviation and, according to government studies, cost military and commercial aviation over $2 billion each year due to aircraft loss and damage, out-of-service delays and lost lives.  The MERLIN Aircraft Birdstrike Avoidance Radar system is the most advanced, proven and widely used bird radar technology available for bird-aircraft strike hazard (BASH) and an excellent candidate to improve aerodrome safety and hazard management through the Rudd Government’s RASP funding.
