Another Groundstation installed by ES&S at the Chinese Antarctic base, Zhong Shan
Environmental Systems and Services have completed the installation and commissioning of a second Antarctic groundstation for the Chinese National Satellite Oceanographic Applications Service (NSOAS). This system was installed at Zhong Shan base, located approximately 1000 km from the south pole. This groundstation, like its sister station at Great Wall Antarctic base (also manufactured by ES&S - see separate news item), is designed to receive satellite data from Terra, Aqua, and all the NOAA satellites. Software installed as part of the system generates high level products, including sea surface temperature, sea ice, snow cover, ocean chlorophyll concentration, and a range of atmospheric products used for Antarctic research and forecasting.
This is the fourth groundstation installed by ES&S in Antarctica. ES&S has also provided two groundstations for the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, at their Casey and Davis bases.
