NEW ZEALAND EARTHQUAKE RECORDED IN AUSTRALIA
Residents in Christchurch, New Zealand are still reeling after a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck at
4.35am (Christchurch local time) on Saturday the 4th of September. The seismic wave arrivals were recorded on ES&S seismic instrumentation as seen on the following image.
The seismic wave arrivals were recorded across the entire ES&S Seismic Network, extending all the
way from Hobart,Tasmania in the south, through to Chilagoe and Tinaroo, near Cairns in north Queensland.
The Christchurch earthquake triggered the ES&S Alarm Notification System with 24-hour duty
personnel duly advised.
