New Developments in cutting-edge Tornado detection and weather radar technology
03 Dec 2008

Enterprise Electronics Corporation's new developments in tornado detection and weather radar technology are set to take the world by storm. The innovative dual polarmetric radar that was sold to the University of Oklahoma for USD$2.5 million is to be commissioned on a project at the Univeristy campus on December 19 2008.

EEC's Vice President of Marketing and Business Development commented on the technology, saying it will provide earlier and more valid detection of storms as well as improvement in the accuracy of tornado and flash flood prediction. Also saying that the C-band high resolution, dual polarisation radar, the first of its kind in the US, will allow more valid precipitation detection than standard Doppler radar.

"the way I like to describe the radar to people is it looks like the crosshairs of a rifle. ... It lets us know if the precipitation is rain or hail, or if it's debris or something else." Goode said.

The University of Oklahoma's reputation for being a world leader in the fields of engineering and meteorology is partly due to its outstanding research units Advanced Radar Research Centre (ARRC) and The Centre for Analysis and Prediction of Storms (CAPS).
