ES&S is pleased to annouce the Dual X/L band meteorological satellite tracking groundstation SATRAX700 X/L has been chosen by the Bureau of Meteorology for installation at the Australian Antarctic base at Casey. This new system provides the operational flexibility to track the new generation of polar orbiting satellites broadcasting in both X band and L band frequencies as they pass over the Antarctic territory and the surrounding southern ocean.

According to ES&S CEO, Mr Bob Wright, the remotely sensed data is critical for aircraft and shipping operations in the Antarctic and provides valuable into global weather and climate numerical simulation.

The new system was installed in January and replaces the ES&S L band satellite tracker which has been operating continuously at Casey since it was installed in 1991.
